A charming village, like no other. Perched on a rocky outcrop, surrounded by plains and lakes from the Alqueva weir, this medieval village, with a tempestuous history, conquered by Arabs and then regained by Catholics, will fill your memory for ever.
Close to the spanish border, on the east part of Alentejo region, Monsaraz is a jewel, awarded most beautiful village of Portugal en 2017 for its monuments.
With a windy and quite cold weather in winter, Monsaraz quietly awakens in march, and green meadows dotted with green oaks, orange trees, olive trees and vineyards are gradually surrounded by thousands of spring flowers. Then, in june, landscape become arid and gold, burnt by a blazing sun that sinks slowly until october.

I have enjoyed this springtime stay in an Alentejo still green and carpeted with colourful wildflowers, dilettante hiking, well chosen to discover the ancient sites…the lake shores…the fortresses…And above all…charming accomodation and wonderful and tasty gastronomy.

Nature, culture, gastronomy : a tasty cocktail to enjoy slowly in this preserved Alentejo. This hiking program is to be done preferably at springtime when flowers are a visual delight. It offers many other surprises like sailing on the Guadiana waters, workshops visits, wine tasting and above all spectacular encounter in a ganaderia…
